ABSTRACT

Objective To determine the potential sources of food safety risk and food safety related awareness of employees in the farmer markets in Yangpu District of Shanghai, and to provide evidence for food safety management. Methods The investigation on food safety and food-borne disease knowledge were conducted in 13 farmer markets in Yangpu District, and to assess the impact of employees′ behavior on food safety. Results A total of 368 employees in the 13 farmer markets were included in the study.Employees with high school education and above had better knowledge of food safety (P < 0.001).There was significant difference in the physical examination and habit of smoking in public places among the employees with different education levels. In addition, the employees in various positions in the markets differed significantly in the knowledge of food safety and behavior, such as taking physical examination, washing hands before meal and continuing working when feeling sick. Conclusion Food safety related risk in the farmer markets in Yangpu District mainly originates from the inadequate knowledge of the employees with low education levels, which further affects their behavior.Market management should strengthen the training of food safety related knowledge in the employees and advocate healthy behavior, such as taking physical examination and stop smoking, which contributes to creating a healthy work and shopping environment.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) at "Sanyinjiao" (SP 6) on urodynamics indices in rats with overactive bladder (OAB) after cystostomy, and to explore its regulation mechanism on bladder function.

METHODSForty-eight Sprague-Dawley female rats which received cystostomy were randomly divided into a blank group (group A), a blank Sanyinjiao group (group B), a blank non-acupoint group (group C), a model group (group D), a model Sanyinjiao group (group E) and a model non-acupoint group (group F), 8 rats in each one. The model of OAB was established with 1% acetic acid solution perfused into the bladder in the group D, group E and group F. No treatment was given to the group A and group D. Acupuncture was applied at bilateral "Sanyinjiao" (SP 6) in the group B and group E, followed by EA after the arrival of qi. Acupuncture was applied at bilateral non-acupoint in the group C and group F, followed by EA with continuous wave, 2 Hz of frequency for 30 min. The treatment was given for continuous 5 urination cycles. The BL-420 E+ biological function experiment system was used to measure and record the changes of indices of bladder pressure and urodynamics.

RESULTSCompared with the group A, the bladder capacity and urine output in the group B were significantly increased (both P<0.05), and the urination rate was increased in the group C (P<0.05); the differences of each index between group C and group B were not statistically significant (all P>0.05). Compared with the group D, the capacity pressure, bladder capacity, detrusor pressure, urinary output and urination rate in the group E were all increased (all P<0.05). Compared with the group F, the capacity pressure and detrusor pressure in the group E were increased (both P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe EA at "Sanyinjiao" (SP 6) could significantly improve urine function in rats with OAB after cystostomy, but its regulation effect on urination is not obvious in rats with non-OAB.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo assess the clinical efficacy, safety and compliance of tianwang buxin decoction (TWBXD) combined with dormancy hygiene education (DHE) and TWBXD alone in treatment of sub-healthy insomnia patients of yin deficiency fire excess syndrome.

METHODSThe multi-centered, single blinded randomized clinical trial design was adopted. One hundred and one sub-healthy insomnia subjects of yin deficiency fire excess syndrome were randomly assigned to two groups. The 50 in the treatment group were treated by combined treatment with TWBXD and DHE, while the 51 in the control group were treated with TWBXD alone. The therapeutic efficacy, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) score, clinical global impression-improvement (CGI) score, quality of life made by WHO (WHOQOL-BREF) score, and safety in the two groups were compared.

RESULTSThe effective rate in the treatment group was 68.08%, lower than that in the control group (75.00%), but the difference between them was statistically insignificant. The PSQI score in the treatment group were reduced from 12.00 +/- 2.25 to 7.55 +/- 2.91 (P < 0.01). It was reduced from 11.68 +/- 2.21 to 7.16 +/- 3.13 in the control group (P < 0.01). The improvement of CGI score and WHOQOL-BREF score was also shown in the two groups after treatment (P < 0.01). No significant difference was shown in each index between the two groups. There was no significant difference in CGI between two weeks after drug withdrawal and by the end of the therapeutic course in the same group (P > 0.05). There was no statistical significance in inter-group comparison (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSignificant effect was achieved by TWBXD combined with DHE and by TWBXD alone. Their efficacies were equivalent, with high compliance and safety.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo observe serum adiponectin, free fatty acid (FFA) profile and other glucose and lipid metabolic parameters in essential hypertensive patients with metabolic syndrome (HPMS) or without metabolic syndrome (HP).

METHODSThe serum adiponectin was measured with the radioimmunoassay, FFA profile measured with the gas chromatography and mass spectrometer in 72 HPMS, 56 HP and 43 normal control subjects.

RESULTSSerum adiponectin were significantly lower in HPMS group than those in the HP and control group (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). Serum total free fatty acid (TFA), unsaturated fatty acid (UFA, linoleic acid, oleic acid, arachidonic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, eicosatrienoic acid), polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) and n6PUFA were significantly higher in HPMS group than those in the HP and control groups (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). Adiponectin was negatively correlated with body mass index, waist circumferences, waist hip ratio, triglycerides (r = -0.222, -0.235, -0.179, -0.194, P < 0.01 or P < 0.05, respectively) and positively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (r = 0.336, P < 0.01); TFA and PUFA were positively correlated with body mass index, waist circumferences, fasting blood glucose, mean arterial pressure (r = 0.241 and 0.280, 0.198 and 0.188, 0.226 and 0.298, 0.274 and 0.334, P < 0.01 or P < 0.05, respectively) in all subjects.

CONCLUSIONOur data suggest that changes in serum adiponectin, FFA and n6PUFA might promote the development of metabolic syndrome in essential hypertensive patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationship between free fatty acid(FFA)composition and other glucose and lipid metabolic parameters in patients with metabolic syndrome(MS)in community. Methods Serum FFA profile was measured with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry in 158 patients with varied metabolic syndrome components(MSC),including 61 with MS and 97 at high-risk for MS,and 43 control subjects, with diagnostic criteria by the International Diabetes Federation(IDF).Results Patients with MS had higher parameters of polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA)and n6PUFA,as compared to the patients at high risk and normal subjects(P0.05). Among the high-risk group, those with diabetes had increased linoleic acid,n6PUFA and total fatty acid (TFA),and decreased saturated fatty acid(SFA)/TFA,as compared to those without diabetes(P
